Even though the snow was a little crusty I took the dogs out for about an hour after work. Nittany and Blitz did their best but it was tough to cover some of the ground. They did have an unproductive point in a food plot and we saw bird tracks but we couldn't produce anything. They tried to go in the switchgrass but it was tough with the grass bent over, snow and ice. Some of the cover:
We worked towards a partially frozen creek but it didn't stop the dogs so I followed them. We worked across a cut bean field and Blitz had his nose in the air. Then I saw this:
Its hard to see him but he is in front of the light cover.

I ended up flushing out a covey of quail that were liberated in the first week of October. Most of the birds flew into the woods but one single went left.

We didn't find any pheasants and I didn't fire a shot but it was great to be out. The dogs enjoyed it, too.
