The first snowfall of the season came to my covers in late October...with it brought some beautiful scenery and some flights of woodcock.
One morning as Dad and I were driving to our spot for our morning hunt, this guy appeared on the road. I stopped the vehicle, snapped a picture and walked toward him to see how close I could get...well he had many friends (7 to be exact) with him. My dad said Lilly about went through the windshield when the covey busted.
A hunted a few of my old covers this year and a few new ones. The second pic is a nasty cover that holds both woodcock and grouse.
Woodcock season finds me shooting at less birds each year...I think I am starting to get soft. However, I did take a few birds for Lilly.
I don't know why but of all the photos I have taken of Lilly, for some reason this is one of my favorites. I wish I could have moments like this with her forever but at 9 1/2 years old, I know her hunting days are winding down. After the season, I will have this photo blown up and hung in my "man cave"
Well that's it...hope everyone has a safe hunting season...
Nate...I know I can see it in her face too. 400 grouse does seem like a lot but over 20+ years it really isn't...just a lot of time in the field. From what I know about your shooting ability, it won't take you that long to get there.
