Pike County Thanksgiving Grouse

The dog and I were able to get a few hours of hunting in before having to be home for Thanksgiving with the family. We had about an inch of snow overnight and still quite cold and windy this morning. We headed over to a spot I hit a few times a year. I haven't seen a bird yet there this year but it's close to home and we can cover the whole thing pretty quickly. We didn't flush a single bird out of the aspen trees but managed to flush two out of the conifers. I guess they were using them to get out of the weather. I missed the first bird which was a wild flush anyways but got the second one over a nice solid point.

Shot from in the field with my phone.

Shot from at home with the real camera.

Also just seeing two grouse here in Pike county in about an hour long hunt is a small miracle for me anyway. I never get into to many grouse here in this area but I just love being out in the woods with my dog so I keep at it.

Hope everyone had I good Thanksgiving, I know I did.

Any day that you can kill a Pennsylvania grouse is a good one!!
