Woodcock update?

Sadly, I've been out of state over the past few weeks so I'm out of touch with what's happening in the PA woods. Are there any timberdoodles still to be found or have they all followed me south?

Just wondering whether to bother chasing them when I get back next week or stick to the uplands.

Re: Woodcock update?

I found a few in Adams county about 2-3 weeks ago but I have not seen any since.

Re: Woodcock update?

Saw some in Clinton/Potter counties last week. Haven't hunted for a week so I can't say if any are still around or not.

Re: Woodcock update?

I haven't seen a woodcock since the season opened (saw some the week before). I always flush woodcock while hunting near my house, and this year couldn't find one. Not sure why.

Re: Woodcock update?

Thanks, guys. That pretty much confirms what I figured - unfortunately. Though there aren't any grouse left here in Beaver and Washington Counties (I think the last one was exterminated in the late 00's), I have found a couple of good spots for timberdoodles. Looks like I missed my window of opportunity for this year though.

Sigh.

Re: Woodcock update?

I hunted a few 'doodle areas in ANF yesterday and didn't move 1 bird. Put up some grouse though.

I usually have put up 1 grouse by now in Beaver County (probably the same one) but haven't even done that yet!

Re: Woodcock update?

Put up some doodles a couple weeks ago, but have not seem any since.

Grouse in Beaver? Not in New Brighton i'd guess.

If you enjoy hunting please find a way to give back to the sport. Our children will thank you.

Re: Woodcock update?

My dog put up a woodcock last weekend on a farm we hunted in Northampton County.
