Good Grouse Hunting Articles in the NRA Hunter Mag

Ladies & Gentlemen,
Frank Minter has a real nice Memories Earned Grouse Hunting article in this months NRA American Hunter Magazine, you can tell by the article he is a real time Grouse hunter and one of the NRA best editors.
The article is well worth reading, wish it was even longer.

Is that the same Miniter that wrote the Ultimate Man's Guide or some such silly thing?
If so, I reckon the article would be quite a read.
I'll have to try and find someone who receives the NRA stuff and look it over.
Good head's up.

GBE was correct....decades ago.

Rory has a good owner now....lucky lad.

OD,
It is a nice short article, and yes it's the same writer.

Re: Good Grouse Hunting Articles in the NRA Hunter Mag

Blackstrump,
Minter talks about one of my favorite places in NH,
been going there sense the early 60's, in the 84's we had a bunch of Grouse hunter show up, however most were good Grouse hunters and did not hurt the Grouse population.
The massive Grouse hunting numbers have fallen off again so the area is pretty much back to normal. The problem is they drove the cost of staying in that area during Grouse season way up. Thank the Lord most of that 80's crew are now going out to Minn to hunt Grouse. Seems they follow the Grouse population, which is fine for them. Myself I am a very traditional type Grouse hunter, with my SxS double guns and Gordon & Ryman Setter gun dogs. I actually like a more challenging Grouse hunt, that is why I spend so much time in Potter/Tioga, Pa along with the north woods in NH & VT. I like both the small town traditions of Pa and New England to spend time in while I Grouse hunt, to me there is a lot more to Grouse hunting than just shooting birds. I like the eating establishmets, fine food, sitting around the big rock fire pit,in the late evening and good companionship of both the old time Grouse hunters and my dogs. The young guys can have their O/U & Semi Auto guns and big time Grouse numbers with the semi sparce habitat to shoot in. The New England and Pa habitat with their more challenging gunning suits my traditional Grouse hunting
requirements to a tee.

New England Grouse Hunting still some of the best around.

Dave,
I feel the same way. Its all about the traditions. I have never hunted grouse outside of this wonderful state but dream about a long hunting trip up north some day. Maybe when my young orange setter gets some years under his belt. This will be his first season in grouse woods. Until then Potter Co. will give us plenty of walking to do. Ill get in touch with you this season and maybe we can talk dogs and guns and birds.
