Woodcock numbers in northwest pa

Does anybody near Oil City, Pa area have a good population of woodcock? Or do the woodcock prefer the eastern side of the state. Thanks for the help in advance!

Re: Woodcock numbers in northwest pa

I guess it all depends on your definition of "good". During "training" season the last 5 years (March, Aug, and Sept), I've averaged finding 3.62 birds an hour. The Best day was 13.2/hour, but there are some days with zero finds.

My hunting season numbers are much lower, but that's primarily because I concentrate on grouse rather than woodcock.

My beagles have been kicking one up every hour or two here in Erie co. I imagine a guy with an honest bird dog could find quite a few more.

Many years ago (when lead shot was still legal for waterfowl) we would hunt them after ducks near Wilhelm. We saw a few and my Dad got a few over the years. I have no idea if there are any around there anymore.
