Can anyone give me Tips for dove scouting?

Does anyone have any recommendations to find good spots to get on some good dove hunts this season. I know to look for cut corn and wheat. I know they like to roost in evergreens and I know they like to feed near water in the evenings but I still struggle to find good fields.

Happy Hunting!

Re: Can anyone give me Tips for dove scouting?

This is kind of a tough one and it's only based on my own experience. I have found that the best way to find doves is while woodchuck hunting. Especially by using walk and stalk process. If you are very lucky you may find a dove fly-way. Over the years I have been fortunate in finding several of them and during dove season simply set up in cammo at a spot along that path. However, it has been my experience that these fly-ways are not permanent and can change from year to year.

Water and grain sources. Not sure where you are, but the big rivers, Susquehanna in my area, that run through farms are ideal. Larger creeks are good also. Its usually not hard to get permission to dove hunt. As dusk arrives, so do the doves over areas like that.

A good place to look are strip mines / rock quarries next to farmland. Some of the best dove hunting I've ever experienced came from an area like that.

Ditto on the quarries.

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.

Go out in the evenings about an hour before daerk and check ut areas that look good, chopped corn fields etc. Park for a while and observe, see id=f doves are flying in the area, are they lined up on electric or telephone wires, move from one lac e to another until you see a place with lots of doves moving. Then ask permssion to hunt those fields.

When you are up to your butt in alligators, it is hard to remember your intent was to drain the swamp. Stay focused!

I had the best two days i have ever had this year on doves this past year. We killed 30 in a hour and 45 min between two of us. The farmer spread manure on the field and there was grain all through it. more doves than i have ever seen.

Yep i always look at electric lines around the fields that i hunt to determine where the highest concentrations are.
