when do grouse eggs hatch?

I am going camping this month up in the ANF. I am taking my GSP with me. I planed to go for a few walks to see what she does if we find some grouse. I don't want to do this if they are still breading and hatching eggs. Could someone let me know when it is safe to do this for the birds?

OK thanks. I'm not going till the 16th. I will not let her far from my side and stay on the trails.

Pghbirdhunter One thing that I would be concerned about running your dog this time of year is rattlers. If you don't know the area well do a little asking around to see what risks you might have.

I never thought about that so thanks for the post. I did check with a friend and they are very common up there. I plan to get some anti venom.

I wouldn't let the dog off a leash, especially because you don't have knowledge of what it will do when it finds grouse. Sticking to trails doesn't help. Grouse like trails. Loose dogs in grouse cover right now is asking for a pile of dead grouse.

Re: when do grouse eggs hatch?

I saw a grouse and her young ones this past weekend, and my uncle saw a different hen and her little ones. It was amazing to see there size they sure do start out small. I wouldn't run my dog right now they could eat a few young ones faster than you could stop them.
