Gas Companies/Fracking things up

Do we have anyone out there or organization protecting our public gamelands from these gas companies. The gamelands I have visited where fracking was going on are screwed up....huge pits, etc.

What are you seeing?

Re: Gas Companies/Fracking things up

I'm seeing the Marcellus money as a benefit to the PGC Gamelands. Pennsylvania's game and beyond.
I'm seeing pipelines opening up a bit of the woods to let sunlight hit more of the forest floor which is always a good thing....the downside, imo, will be the increase in the bush honeysuckle varietals.
But I can't really blame the Marcellus boom for that...tho many uninformed folks would.
Reclamation is inherent in the process.
Many tho will fail to have patience or refuse to see the positives.

Rather than worry needlessly about the Gamelands(often the worry being driven by someone's hunting being messed up for a short time)......where the water used in the hydraulic fracturing process originates and where it is disposed are the two major concerns.

GBE was correct....decades ago.

Jim Fracking has helped me greatly. Have a pipeline going through my property now, that come spring will be a nice food plot. Plus has not affected the deer hunting a bit on the properties I hunt. Also during archery we bumped a load of grouse. Your east norriton neighbor!!

Jamesh,
If you have seen something that does not meet legal standards on the SGL, contact Eric Miller. He is one of the head Biologist for the PGC and make a legal complaint.
Eric participates here as the Pa Sportsman, I have seen nothing up our way that does not meet PGC strict standards.
So far nothing but good has come from Fracking on PGC lands.

I'd contact the LMO for the particular SGL rather than bothering Eric... just sayin.

Re: Gas Companies/Fracking things up

Checkout SGL59 in Potter County on google earth...I can tell you firsthand it has made a negative impact on small game...This is 1 of many examples...

I admit the pipeline lanes are beneficial, but some of the drilling sites look like mini city/factories in the middle of nowhere. Trucks flying down the roads, etc.

BTW, are any of the gas proceeds from fracking going back into habitat?

Re: Gas Companies/Fracking things up

I've noticed a considerable decline in small game! A Picture tells 1000 words...It looks a lot worse in person...A major dump!

Jamesh,
Next time you are out there, take some pictures and
send them to the LMO or Eric if you believe they are violating the PGC standards set up for drilling sights. The overhead really does not show much.
