Pheasant in Moraine

Anyone ever hunted Moraine State Park for Pheasant? I was thinking of heading up there this weekend. There's not a huge amount of Pheasant territory there from what I've seen the few times I've scouted around it but it's better than nothing. Just me no dog.

Re: Pheasant in Moraine

Tried SGL95 instead on the back of some advice I got here. Spent a little while trying to figure out the lay of the land there and wasn't able to cover much ground without a dog. It seemed like there was a decent number of Pheasants around but also a lot of hunters most of them with dogs that looked much more effective than me at flushing birds!!

Re: Pheasant in Moraine

SGL 95 is your much better bet. The area called "The Glades," near the lake is stocked pretty well with ringnecks. You might want to try back there after deer season too. Many of the hunters will be holed up in thick cover (near the big screen) by then, but some of the birds will still be there.

BTW, a little further north on SGL 95 has decent grouse hunting some years. Haven't been up there this year so I can't say for sure. I usually like to hit some of the covers just west of the town of Hilliards.

Re: Pheasant in Moraine

Thanks for the advice grousechaser. I'll probably try and get out again this Saturday, so if anyone is willing to give a newcomer to the region a helping hand let me know (or looking for someone to beat the brush

Re: Pheasant in Moraine

If anyone needs info around SGL 95, feel free to contact me. I live right in it. My Wife's uncle borders the pice over by Hilliards. I'm just off 308 north of the High School. Can put bird hunters on some surrounding private land too. I'm not a bird guy, so might as well share the wealth. I'll be up in NY till Tuesday, but am off the rest of the week if anyone is interested.

Don't let our differences defeat us.
