Scouting for Grouse Saturday

Decided to take advantage of the nice weather and look for next year's "hotspots". Ended the day with Lilly pointing 13 of the 15 birds we put up. The ticks were pretty bad also...unbelievable for February.

How cool that all the birds were right next to the trail like that, you don't often see that.

Re: Scouting for Grouse Saturday

I know wingshot...it was unbelievable. And look at the cover how low it is. I usually would not spend too much time in cover this low since there were so many briars and my dog just gets beat up and usually isn't worth the effort. The first point she had, 2 birds busted out and both went straight up like helicopters...AND I was standing right in the middle of the road. As I was laughing I was thinking what an easy true double it would have been (another joke). As we walked down that road she had two others right next to the road and then on the way back we missed two others next to the road that she pointed on the way back. Somedays with a gun she points 20 or more grouse and I can't even get a decent shot. Shooting them doesn't matter to me much anymore though.

I see blood on the tip of the tail in the one picture. I always take that as 1 happy dog!

Think before you share your thoughts!!!
