Really good dog work on some new ground

And a few new hunting buddies too.
We Took a trip out to western Bradford county today.
Took a few a my wife's business associates on their family farm.
Todd came along to give me a hand with the hounds and we had just a really nice hunt. Jumped about 20 rabbits, some went to ground and the dogs accounted for all but 1 that they dropped in a wet swampy area.
The dogs ran just super. Young Cinder was a tad rough coming off a month long break for a heat cycle but the other 3 seasoned hounds were there to keep her on track.

We ended up with 10 on the tailgate and a quality new spot.

Gettin em Ready

A good day

Smiles all around

Good way to start Feb.

Great hunt! Bradford County is loaded with C.R.E.P., and I've seen as many rabbits in the last five years as I ever have.

It's breeding,training...and something unknown.

Re: Really good dog work on some new ground

Definitely a more "spotty" year.
Fortunately we have a lot of spots spread over a big area, 60 or so by 20 miles and around 2 dozen properies, and multiple hunt sections on quite a few of these.

When we have hunted a property that didn't look at least decent, we have not hunted the other hunt sections of that property, preferring to let them rest.

Lowland spots, swamps have definitely been down , makes sense with all the rain this year.
Multiflora hillsides have been the best with some spots being well above normal.

Active farms with corn and other crops will always out produce CREP farms.

Re: Really good dog work on some new ground

I noticed something similar while grouse hunting this year. Despite excellent food sources and good habitat, the lowland areas we hunted held very few grouse. This did change later in the year though. We busted rabbits every time out this year, even though we weren't exclusively hunting for them.

It's breeding,training...and something unknown.

Re: Really good dog work on some new ground

We flushed a few grouse in a lower section yesterday but there were only a few rabbits in there.

Got up on the hillside and the hoppers came out 2 at a time.
