GOT ONE FOR THE WALL

Nearly had the easy grand slam on saturday but i had to get a hair cut and couldnt get one of the 5000 red squirrels behind my house. I made the trip to martinsburg to try and get a fox squirrel for fly tying material or if big enough the wall. I took my 22 as to not mess up the pelt for either tanning or mounting. I love to long distance shoot so at the last minute i decided to take my 17 hmr. I shot 2 greys at 5 and 8 yards wich is not my favorite when hunting with the 17hmr.

Then at about 7:40 i saw what i thought was a red fox at 100 yards. Here is was this tank fox squirrel. He got to about 80 when i put the crosshairs on the area behind the shoulder as to not mess up for a mount. POW!! i missed. I reloaded placed the crosshairs again and touched off. I dropped him. When i went up to him i didnt even see any blood. After further inspection the bullet when between ribs and smacked the shoulder on opposite side. All destruction was internal. I can't believe how lucky i am to not blow this bad boy up. Happy to get a monster "buck" fox squirrel. Now maybe i could leave the squirrels alone in 2012 and go after a buck for the wall. LOL

I love long distance squirrel hunting and now i will have a great trophy to show for it. Long live the 17 hmr! LOL

Notice the placed leaf to cover the wounds. LOL if i would have flipped the greys over you would have heard the "how you should take photos for posting speeches" Just kidding. I love having good looking pictures to remember hunts by and it only adds to the memory.

That fox squirrel weighed close to 3 pounds and was one of the "as big as a cat" squirrels.

Re: GOT ONE FOR THE WALL

Thanks for the compliments on the gun. when i ordered in in 2006 the guy said it comes in grey or brown. I thought the bown laminate was the same as the marlin 983ss 22 mag. But when i opened the box i almost collapsed. LOL This is my favorite gun and definetly most accurate. I wish BSA made a stainless steel colored sweet 17,

i did mess up the rubberized coating by applying oil to it when wiping off the gun. Big no no. Have to get a new scope soon but its so hard to give up the accuracy.

Re: GOT ONE FOR THE WALL

That is a great looking gun and a horse of a squirrel. Never shot a fox squirrel in Pa. The only ones I ever got were from Fort Jackson, SC. Congrats!
