Braydens 1st Grouse Hunt

My dog is my 4 year olds best friend and sleeps in bed with him every night. He asks me all the time if he'll be able to go hunting with Rikka some day. Well, after getting his 1st gun for Christmas(Daisy BB Gun)that he calls his shotgun I figure it was as good a time as any to take him for grouse.

Here we are heading out on our day after Xmas hunt.

My dogs tracks are almost as big as his.

He's been practicing holding the gun safely and wanted to show me how so here he is with a demonstration.

Rikka was on point so I let him be the one to walk up on her. She is off to the right somewhere. He really thought he was going to take out that bird with the BB gun, with no BB's in it.

Here is Rikka on point. She held that thing like a champ, I bet she wonders why Brayden didn't shoot.

We continued about another 10 minutes before his feet were cold, hands were cold, gun was too heavy, he was hungry, etc which obviously I knew was coming. Rikka had 1 more point in a very thick clearcut where 5 birds flew and I let her down. We turned around, walked back to the truck, held hands to keep our hands warm, only to be broken up by the opportunity to throw a snowball or 2 at dad while he's walking. We took a break and shot a few dozen bb's out of his new gun before heading back to the vehicle and going home for hot chocolate and soup. Very short hunt, 1 of the only times in 7 years I've taken my dog for grouse without bringing 1 or 2 home and still probably the most enjoyable hunt I've ever been on for grouse. Hope it's the 1st of many.
