Getting back to it!

I'm getting back into small game hunting, particularly grouse and pheasent. My question is how many of you hunt without dogs and what tecnhniques do you use? I grew up with Britney Spaniels but I haven't had a good dog in years, but thats another story. I know flushing pheasents on my own is pure luck, but I usually can flush a grouse or two where I usually go. I'm not looking to move in on anyones areas just some ideas.

Thanks, Mike

Make a friend with a solo hunter who has a dog. I met some of my best buds who were guys that just happened to walk up and strike up a conversation. After a while of letting guys tag along you can spend some real quality time hunting, and probably put some game in your jacket!

I thought about that too, I just always feel like I'm imposing on someones hunt. I don't mind hunting without a dog, I just need to get better at flushing grouse in a shootable position.

I actually head up to either Sgl 210 and Weiser State Forest areas or Stoney Valley and Sgl 211. If you would like to do a trip sometime let me know. I can not promise shooting but it is gorgeous country.
