Re: Help! anyone noticing this???

hunt the beech stands! they're out in numbers here (same with the turkeys). beech are easy to identify bc they grow in clusters, they're leaves are bright coppery color and stay on the trees longer than other species.

Life's too short to hunt with an ugly dog.

I'm not up in that area, but I was thinking that they are more abundant than ever down here. If there were deer and rabbits and pheasants around here like the squirrels it would be awesome.

Re: Help! anyone noticing this???

Do you look for the squirrels themselves? I have a young friend that just got out of the service that wanted to hunt squirrel. While I was travelling between my deer spots I looked for the nests. I found 3 spots that are very promising. If the nests are any indication I probably hit the mother load in one spot. I have also noticed road kills in 2 spots that I will be checking out this week as well.

Think before you share your thoughts!!!

Also check for hollow trees...Hollow beech make good squirrel shelters. This time of year squirrels will leave their shelters, nest, and hollow trees and spent the entire day looking for food then return to their shelter at/near dark.

Re: Help! anyone noticing this???

They don't seem to be in the oak stands around me (lack of acorns) but my archery stand is in a hickory stand and they are all over the place.
