The ones I got this year were full of catkins and grapes.

Item 1 is a fern tip. I'd guess that at least 75% of the birds I've killed contain fern. Item 3 is some type of a tree bud, but I'm not sure which. The dominant tree species in the area were black birch, cherry and maple. My original thought was birch, but I'm not certain.

Can anyone provide any guidance for Item 3?

Re: Grouse Food

I was not aware that grouse would eat maple seed like that.
Maybe the striped maple shoots could provide some beneficial cover?

Re: Grouse Food

Nearly every bird I've checked from the ANF has had fern in it's crop. I rarely see the maple seeds but went to Maine this year and the birds crops were loaded with maple seed.
