Grouse Camp

Well myself, my cousin andrew, my friend andrew, and tank went up to the cabin for a long weekend this past week. We left wednesday night and hunted thurs, fri, and sat. We planned on doing some grouse and rabbit hunting as well as bear. We ended the first day with 5 grouse, I shot my limit, my cousin shot one, and andrew shot his limit. The next day we went out and rabbit hunted in the morning and found one rabbit it holed quickly, and I shot a grouse with the .410 pistol. Than we called it a day for rabbit hunting and headed back to camp. The day ended with my buddy andrew getting his limit of 2 grouse and me with the one from the morning. Saturday we hunted bear in the morning and didn't see any. Saw plenty of tracks in the snow that was left from Thursday nights snowfall. We ended up hunting grouse for a few hours in the evening we missed a bunch and ended the day with 1 more grouse. We ate all of them except the last one which i'll be eating this weekend with hopefully some more to go on the table with it. We had alot of shooting and alot of good laughs. Everyone had a great time and we plan to make it an annual thing. Sunday we cut some trees down to add to the grouse cover for the winter. We plan to head back up in the spring to help my grandpop with the foodplots and cut more trees down as well as try and plant some pines.

Day 1.

Day 2

Day 3
No picture as its on my phone and I haven't loaded it on the computer yet.

Re: Grouse Camp

I really enjoyed reading your post and looking at the pictures. Although I don't mention it much on HPA we also have a Grouse/Deer Camp located up in Bradford County. After chasing ringnecks around for the first half of the season we like to spend some time up there after grouse!
I have to sit back and laugh when I read on here people saying that you have to have a specific breed or style to hunt a particular species of game bird, what a lot of B/S!If you have a well bred and trained "GUN" dog he should be able handle all game birds...period! Looks like your Boykin does very well on grouse, but that's no surprise.Anyway congrats on a good hunt!

It's breeding,training...and something unknown.

Re: Grouse Camp

Beautiful spaniel Huntin54! All our "lowly flushing dogs" do is hunt, flush, and retrieve anything with feathers. You gotta love that!

Re: Grouse Camp

That is a boykin spaniel he belongs to my cousin. He didn't really do that well on grouse he only flushed two of the 9 we shot, I just wanted to get him in the picture. I also had two of my beagles out that day. My copper male flushed two that we shot, and he even retrieved them for us, I was glad he was there. The others were flushed by us just walking along knowing the area they were in. My cabin is in Potter Co.

Were going back up this weekend i'm hoping to get another chance at them Saturday. I'll post pics if we get any.
