Well, its been another great bird hunting season in PA so far. I have taken dove, woodcock, pheasant, grouse and even a snipe (which was a real goal of mine this year) off of points from my setter Lilly this year. Who says you can't have a versitile bird dog. Here are some pics of the season so far: (some of the dates from the camera are obviously wrong)
Dove season was great...I could not believe how many great chances I had at doves off of points in standing corn with Lilly:
This was the result of a double a managed to take:
First day of woodcock:
Lilly with a mess of grouse and a well earned rest:
Two beautiful color phases of PA grouse:

Pheasant sure are beautiful even though these are stockies:
However, the most beautiful bird in any upland:

And finally the snipe...it wasn't the nicest one as it was an immature bird and was somewhat bloodied but Lilly made a great point and I managed to knock it down...boy can they fly fast!!!
Since I had to put my older setter down this past summer after she gave me 12 great hunting seasons, I began to think about Lilly and how she is already 7 1/2 years old so I made it a priority to really hunt this season (even more than normal which is a lot). We have hunted most days in September for doves, then moved on to the traditional upland season. It has been a great time so far. Good luck the rest of the season and forget the house chores like I have done and hunt.
