Grouse Roosting

Do grouse have similar roosting times as turkey? What time do grouse come off their roosts? go to their roosts?

Re: Grouse Roosting

I dont have an exact answer other then I have found that weather plays a part in things. I have been out in lousy weather all morning only to find that the grouse hadnt entirely come off the roost yet.

Re: Grouse Roosting

One thing to remember. Grouse roost on the ground just as much as they do in trees. In mountainous terrain, they'll roost on the ground at the ridgeline to take advantage of rising thermals.

If you really want to increase your knowledge of ruffed grouse in Applachia, pick up a copy of Ecology and Management of Appalachian Ruffed Grouse from Hancock House Publishers. The book is 100% applicable to grouse in Pennsylvania.
