First Day Squirrel

Boy oh boy oh boy! How I love that FIRST day! The old tube fed Mossberg .22,(made in 1947) snacks, coffee, and the troubles of mankind are forgotten for a day. It is weird, but I can't seem to go hunting unless I have an old laundry bag pin to hook the squirrel onto, as important as carrying my knife. Tradition! Good luck folks and enjoy!

Re: First Day Squirrel

yep, i like the first day of squirrel as much or more than the first day of deer. me and my boys make a day of it on the SF we hunt. take the camp cooking gear and do a tailgate lunch of soup and sandwiches. then a little nap for a couple hours and back out for the rest of the day. its great.

Re: First Day Squirrel

Just bought a new savage .22 with a nice little Tasco 4x on it. Have been having fun getting it all nice and sighted in. I feel like a kid with all my stuff laid out waiting for Saturday to get here. Shoot be a great day, about 60 degrees or so. I can't wait.

Re: First Day Squirrel

forecast for my area is 20 MPH winds and 60 degrees. not ideal in my experience. i would prefer a hard rain friday night and then a cool morning on saturday. but ya can't always get what ya want i guess. i'll be carrying my grandpaps mod 12 with my s&w 22 in my pocket. i doubt i'll do any shooting but you never know. one boy will have my ruger 77/22 and the other boy hasn't made his mind up yet between the 870LW 20 gauge, 20 double or 870 20 youth. i need to buy another 22 rifle or two.

Re: First Day Squirrel

Now that you said that about the rain Friday, I just looked at the forecast at it says 60% chance of rain Friday followed by no rain (well 10% chance) on Saturday. It should be cool and dry all day with the highs hitting just under 60.

I'm stoked.

Re: First Day Squirrel

It has been looking like rain in Erie county from Friday on, but I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Re: First Day Squirrel

I'm looking forward to it regardless. I'm taking a new guy out and we should get some action where we're going. Calling for mid to low 60's with wind between 10-15 I guess that should be ok...
