870 youth with laminated stock is what i got my boys. it was $319 at gander several years ago. i have since bought a full sized buttstock for it for around $30 and it fits them nice. the mossy is a nice gun too. i like the tang safety on them. i'm more of a remington man though so i went with the 870.

My diploma is a DD Form 214

Mossberg Batam is another option. It has a tange safety while the other have a trigger safety.

Got my son the 870 two years ago, no issues no problems. It's a workhorse for the money.

I have a remington youth model 870 that I've been using since I was 12, I'm 28 now and it still functions just fine.

I have a Mossberg 500 that I bought back in 1977 and shot more turkeys with it that you can shake a stick at. It's my go to shotgun.

I bought it for the safety on top, it's easier to use than the trigger one IMO.

My name is Moss and i'm a turkey huntin' addict

Remington for $30 more, and it holds a little more resale value than a Mossberg. Take him with you to buy it, no greater excitement at that age !
