Where are all the beaglers?

Haven't seen many posts from rabbit chasers on here lately, but I'm ready for open season. Been running quite a few mornings and there still seems to be a few around. Not as many as summer, but there never is.

When I was a kid every Saturday morning during small game season it would be an orchestra of beagles from all rabbit hunters around. Now all those beautiful farms and overgrown pastures have housing developments on them 😞

We have a ten rabbit limit and the season is open all year. Freezer is fairly well stocked with rabbits so I will not be out for a while.

I carry a gun because I'm to young to die and to old to take a ass whipping.

I was raised a rabbit hunter. I saw the population collapse from the early 80's to when I gave up on rabbits in the 2000's. I actually 'graduated' to grouse at 17 when my brother got a 'pasture bred' Brittany. Now even the grouse are effectively gone. If there were still rabbits, I'd have a beagle and not an english springer to hunt the only flushing small game I have left; pheasants and the rare occasional woodcock.

I've had my boy out a few times for yute season. We've been to some trials. Will be at the PBGF derby runoff on Sunday. There are plenty of bunnies around to keep it interesting.
