Fox squirrels

Really would like to find a good place that isn't a long drive to take my nephew out on the youth season. If anyone has any ideas and would like to share please PM me. Don't want to travel any further than I have to. Fox squirrels are much easier to find with the dogs. Greys are great on a good day but there is once again not much mast here. I know one spot I like that isn't too far away but it is loaded with ticks. I don't go there unless it is real cold. Got another area I was thinking of trying a little further west from there. Might just check that out if I get a chance before season. Been working sooo much. Hoping I can get a day in the youth season that me and my nephew both have off. Really want to take him but won't know if it will work out 'till the last minute. Guess I am gonna have to go mobile to get some great squirrel hunting this year. Might just hit some farmland around cornfields instead of the woods. Just trying to think of my options.
Thanks

You canít get them if you ainít in the woods!!

Re: Fox squirrels

Bob good luck finding a place to hunt them. We don't have fox squirrel here. Wish the PGC would do a trap and transfer of them here. My little cur would love to hunt them. Actually the only place I have seen them is once in Ohio and then in Florida.

Re: Fox squirrels

No fox squirrels here in Clinton County. The sgl that I believe you are talking about is in Centre County and it is literally crawling with ticks. Moss that is the area I have been thinking about looking into. Might get ahold of you when season comes in if you want. Really isn't far from the sgl I believe buckkiller is talking about but I am sure there aren't near the ticks. Thanks guys. Only ever went for black squirrel once but there are supposed to be some in northern Clinton and Potter county. Went to where I thought there would be some once and there wasn't any kind of squirrel to be found, not even a nest, dogs didn't tree once and that is unusual. Talked to a guy that lived in the area and he said there were lots of fisher so I think that is what was going on.

Re: Fox squirrels

Have never shot a fox squirrel. I understand they are
not as plentiful as they used to be in PA. Guys I know
that have shot them usually get them close to corn fields.

Re: Fox squirrels

There are quite a few here, and in Mercer Co..
I guess they like farm land more than the mountains.
A few places I hunt now has alot of them,10 years ago or so you were lucky to see one in those spots!
