How do you dove hunt?

Sometimes I just pick out a spot where they fly by and wait
em out but not always. Sometimes I put up a couple dekes
and call them in. This works pretty well and often brings
one or two in that were flying another way but turn and
come into my set up making for an easy enough shot. Other
times if the corn is still up and they are feeding in it I
will walk around the outside of it and jump shoot them as
they take off. Often sitting by water holes near good fields
works well too. So how do you do it?

I'd rather be fishing or hunting!

I prefer getting 25 people together and putting on drives.

I don't have ducks. I don't have rows. I have squirrels. And they're drunk.

Re: How do you dove hunt?

this time of year it tough to move them, they are ussually in the corn or roosted, drives would be a good way to keep them moveing.

i just kinda wander around this time of year and catch some on the edges, once the corn is down i do much better.

down south the kids on 4 wheelers worked great to get them moving

Re: How do you dove hunt?

Normally find a spot to hide in a field where I seeing them fly. Look for places for them to land in dead trees by a food source. Throw out a couple decoys and some days take my homemade dove tree and put it in the field. some days it works others not so much.

saw guys with decoys attached to fishing rods dangling over a powerline. Boy did that work believe it or not. LOL

Re: How do you dove hunt?

I'd really like to get out, I have a bunch of gray 16oz cups I'd set upside down out as decoys. While I never had any land in them, they seemed to angle my way and slow down. I don't hunt them enough to buy real decoys.

If guns cause crime, mine must be broken.

Re: How do you dove hunt?

I try to find flyways and when I do, I will setup with my back against a treeline, or hedgerow, anything that breaks up my silhouette and I wait for them to fly over.

Re: How do you dove hunt?

Shot a couple more doves tonight. Starting to see more of
them flying around now. Hoping to get a few more before
the season ends.

I'd rather be fishing or hunting!
