N.Y. grouse

Hi,a friend of mine just bought land near Cooperstown N.Y.I was wondering if anyone has ever hunted grouse in that area.would it be worth buying the license,or not.

There are grouse in that area,they are not around every tree,but if you locate the right habitat,you can have a good hunt.Why not do some scouting,it might take you guys a few years to find the"hot" spots,but that is what hunting is all about. I would buy the license and use this year as a scouting year.

It's breeding,training...and something unknown.

I hunt just 10 miles west of Cooperstown every Fall for grouse, woodcock, turkey and duck. We consistently have great luck with grouse ...seeing and flushing them. Actually hitting them is normally the hard part. The land is all hill with clear fields cut into flat areas. The rest is dense brush, marsh, and standard forestry. We'll drive the forest floor under the canopy or thru the brush and thicket. We hear plenty of drumming in the spring. You should do well.

I'm in Philly ...we should meet up sometime. We could do some trips together. We go every fall for birds.
