Going thru some old photos, I found this pic, first time Grousenat hunted with me, and his first grouse over a pointing dog(dog didn't stick around to get into the pic, he went looking for another grouse).

Just like the late season is gone forever, this cover has now aged out. All good things come to an end.

Plenty of scouting and good habitat makes for a great hunt.

I love grouse hunting, have spend a lot of $$ to do so, had an excellent Brittany Spaniel who also loved to hunt grouse and pretty much dedicated all my hunting from Oct to Feb. in PA & Ohio to hunt grouse for about a decade in the prime grouse area. However, I have no plans to hunt grouse in S/W until I believe there is a substantial sustainable population of birds.

As I have only seen 5 grouse in the last 18 years in Washington County and I log a lot of hours in the woods. The last one I saw was being chased through the air by a hawk.

I do hope they return soon to flourish, if not for me but for future generations.

One magnificent game bird....

As most of youz know, Grouse being found in SWPA, is a relative proposition. Any Grouse found in Washington/Greene counties, are VERY few and far between. Now, you head up to "the mountains" of SW PA, and you will find some pockets of Grouse.

As close as the early-mid 90's, we still had good to very good, to even excellent Grouse hunting in parts of Washington, and most of Greene counties. Dem's days are gone..... at least for the foreseeable future.

Actually those days are gone through out Pennsylvania, it's just that some aren't ready to accept that fact yet.
