Chukar hunt in the snow
This morning we put out 12 Chukars on my club grounds, there were 4 of us, 3 club members and I took a guest. We had 2 setters and a vizsla. The fields are CREP fields so there is plenty of cover for the birds. the temp was 9 degrees when we started. The dogs worked flawlessly together, I love seeing dogs pointing and honoring each other's point. The dogs found all the birds, the birds flew well and we got all the birds. I forgot my camera but I want to tell you how hard it is to see an orange Belton setter on point in a field of dry switch grass. We then adjourned back to the club house for hot coffee, some conversation, laughs, home made chicken noodle soup made by one of the guys wives, venison ring bologna and a wee dram of Michter's Rye Whiskey and Crown Royal special edition Mash. I do not like bended whiskey, but I really like the Crown Royal. I was a good day in the cold to be alive!
When you are up to your butt in alligators, it is hard to remember your intent was to drain the swamp. Stay focused!
