Those rascally rabbits!

Been having lots of fun chasing bunnies in this snow, although it was a little cold and windy this morning. I've been hunting with a 10/22 and just can't get them to sit still long enough. It doesn't matter, though, I just enjoy hearing the dog and seeing them up close.

Just curious why the 10/22? Do you really experience moments when a cottontail will sit still when being in pursuit by a dog? Cool video

I don't have near the experience of the beaglers on this board, but I did spend a number of years with my Uncle and his 2 beagles back in the late 70's and early 80's. I would say in most of the chases, you'd see the rabbit hopping and stopping quite a ways in front of the dogs. After about the first year of carrying a shotgun and killing rabbits we went to hunting them with .22 revolvers. Didn't kill near as many but it was a whole lot of fun.

Bugs wasn't movin' that fast when you shot, but he sure put the afterburner on when he saw you!

Didn't get a shot at this particular bunny. Thought it was going to stop at one point but then it spotted me and kicked it into overdrive. They do sometimes stop and give you a decent shot. I have taken a few with the .22. Used a 410 for quite a while but it's not about killing rabbits for me it's about listening to the dog run, spending time with my boys, and waiting for a good shot. Plus I got tired picking BB's when it was time to cook them.

Here is a video of one that did sit still long enough.
