Squirrel Dogs

Does anyone use a dog just for squirrels?

I had a beagle that was good at all kind of small game.. When I was hunting I always knew it was a squirrel when she would put her two front paws up on the tree and get up on her hind legs..

It was good since someday I might not be after squirrel just rabbits and grouse so I would just call her off of scent...That Beagle... I once saw a common Norway Rat run across the road.. I use to train her by our City Dump.. Yep she would bark that no good common rat too.

Re: Squirrel Dogs

Nice pics. Thing about curs are it is just like hunting with your buddy. Don't got to worry much about them they do their loop and come back if they ain't stuck to a tree. Most of them listen very well and have a very strong desire to please.

Here is a short video I got with my camera some time back. I was the camera man and shooter. She is a even better now, a jam up squirrel dog. This was back before she had many shot out to her she wasn't barking as good and now she won't bother with a chipmunk while you are hunting.

Love these dogs

You canít get them if you ainít in the woods!!

Re: Squirrel Dogs

Nothing I would love more than to go. Went when Bella was just a pup and took my treeing cur. Don't know why but she wouldn't hunt like she normally does. She would tree then when the other dogs came in she would leave and go look for another one. The dogs that were in my cast were Kimi Sioux and Boozers Jett. Can't want to hunt with better dogs than that. It was a great time. Danny Hamilton and the young Boozer boy were great. Jett had already won the state title 3 times by then. It was Kimmi's first hunt. I think Kimmi ended up taking 2nd and Jett took 5th or 6th. Didn't take Kimi long to become a champion. Will never forget it and really would love to get to another hunt. Keep me updated when there is a hunt if you would. My mother is 81 and getting feabile and wants me to go to a family reunion the same day or I would definately be there. I urge anyone with a decent cur to go to the hunts. Great bunch of people, good dogs, you won't regret it. Sure wish I had more time off to go. You know how it is, you got the money you don't got the time, you got the time you don't got the money. It really doesn't cost much and is well worth it. Actually the biggest expense is gas if it is farther away. Got a pup that the wife wants me to sell but I really don't want to. Not killing myself trying to sell her. Got good reports from the ones I have heard from. Two of them are treeing wild squirrels at 6 months old. They are out of my Bella and dhbow's dog Hardy's Jukebox Jake. That Jake puts the drive in them that is what my dog needed more fire. Sqrlehntr has a dog off of Jake and a few people on here do. Jake is a littermate to Clarks Miz Super Freak. Think I would breed to him again.

You canít get them if you ainít in the woods!!
