Thumbs up First time rabbit hunter

I took a first time rabbit hunter out Saturday; to an orchard/woodlot farm property.
We found plenty of non game tracks like Housecat, coyote, and opossum.
There were Numerous squirrel tracks ; but scant rabbit sign.Scent was high and wide; probably 80%+humidity.
Both dogs boo hooing like old style brace beagles.
They were behind us being blockheads and not listening worth a _ _ _ _ 😠 too.
As we slowly moved into a heavily brushed area young Justin kicks out a rabbit hidden under a log ; and promptly stops the rabbit with a single shot.
My dogs woulda eventually bumped it out ; but I encourage jump shooting on days like these.
He was just ecstatic over his first rabbit ever !
We head to another power line area close by ; and the dogs jump a rabbit in the grass/briar field.
They track it 3/4 of a circle and it holes up.We Never caught sight of it.
We called it a day and gutted the rabbit (which he's never done) .
New rabbit hunter is hooked for life!

I must admit that SOMEONE looks like the cat that swallowed the canary! Great job on starting a young hunter off right!

Remember.... they're full time deer......we're part time hunters!

Well he will have to tag along to the hare swamps next year. Good job Justin. Waugh!

AR is only a pacifier. You will never grow if it's not in your genes.

That's great. I always had an interest in hunting but being able to go out with a neighbor (older gent) when I was young sealed the deal. 54 years later still at it because of a guy like you.
Thank you for taking the time to get the lad out.

I definitely will .
I coulda used another gun and Hunter along this past hare season.
I went solo twice and I'm usually in the wrong spot or late when the hare arrives.
I've got a place in to go this Saturday where there's always rabbits; but it's nasty multiflora rose and the rabbits seem to know where I'm standing.
My dad always took us 3 brothers for small game and I remember the heydays of shooting 12 or more rabbits by 4 hunters in 3 hours without dogs.
Predators and clean farming make it tougher now.
