Took the flintlock smoothbore for a walk this morning. Saw absolutely no squirrels. I did hear one barking though, but he was across the creek on the posted land. I jumped two nice sized doe. I took the Trangia burner and heated up some water for tea and a mountain house meal around 10:00am. Was a great day in the woods even though I didn't get anything. Had the entire place to myself. Really got me pumped up for the deer opener next week even though we hunt deer elsewhere.
Was out for squirrel again last Thursday and saw none. Was in same place cutting firewood today and the grays were out every where.
I'm hunting tomorrow and I was not planning to hunt that area again but now I'll at least stop in there and see.
Listen, or your tongue will make you deaf.
"When a pine needle falls in the forest, the eagle sees it, the deer hears it, and the bear smells it."
an old First Nations saying
Yeah, last time I went out, I didn't get into the woods until around 2:00 pm, this morning I pulled off the road around 7:40. My son wants to go squirrel hunting later this week, so I'm thinking be there right at sunup the next time. I think its probably a little late in the season to be hunting them, but I'll see a ton of them next week no doubt when I'm deer hunting.
