My son and I shot the two cock birds. My buddy shot the two hens. He was a little aggressive wringing the one bird's neck as you can see. We shot all of these birds before 8:30, and were out of there not long thereafter.

Congrats! I didn't feel like fighting the crowd first thing but there were plenty left.

I think the permit system is starting to show, as there weren't as many guys out at first light this year. We actually had a whole patch of brush to ourselves for the first 45 minutes or so, which was great. In years past we'd be lucky to push 100 yards without having guys either along side or cut in front of us.

we flushed 3 birds in 2 hours & then I had to leave.
while in the parking area 3 different groups of hunters were amazed that we saw birds.
they said they didnt see a bird & then I realized there had been very little shooting in the area.
just as I was getting into my truck a pair of guys came back to their truck & when asked said they didnt see any birds either......

I have no proof of this one way or the other, but I have the feeling that PGC stocks birds only at certain areas of gamelands on certain dates. I know where I hunt there is probably 3-4 different areas(each probably 1/2-1mile apart).

I've had times, particularly last season, where I would go to 1 area and see no birds(or any sign that anyone else had shot them) and then go to one of the other areas and have birds flushing all over the place. The next week or two, it's the reverse scenario.

Two pheasants for me in the afternoon, after six ducks (three woodies drake mallard two gw) and a deer. I shot a doe with an 8 pt on her heels last Sat., and again in front of that same 8 pt yesterday. No crossbow with either time. Both times he stood within 20 yards for minutes after the muzzleloader blasts... Still, my only real regret is letting one of the dogs chase a cockbird into a corn field littered with cockleburrs.
