Impressed with the number of pheasant!

My opening day was significantly better than last year's. Although there were more Hens this year at least there were Birds in the field to keep my son and my dog interested.

Tough opener for us only flushed three and killed two for our group of three. First time we did not limit on opening day in a long time.

There's hunting and there's hunting with a good dog

Slow day for us in 1B. Two guys. Two dogs (1 is a novice). Only one rooster flushed/bagged in couple hours beating the brush. Not many guys out. Field were VERY thick this year. This coupled with the wet conditions made it challenging to get birds up.

My dog hunted well and ran strong the whole time. So all in all still a nice, but wet, day.

I had a good morning got my limit on gamelands 120. A porcupine and a thorn in a paw almost ended out hunt early but a great day three birds flushed in 2 hours time the wind was the real killer today.

2nd year for my lab. He hunted hard and good. He flushed a few. I got one and.missed one or two more. Did think I dropped another but could not find. While looking a cock bird took off real close maybe it was still able to fly. My dog found a dead.bird for another hunter who couldn't find it. Sure was getting ready for next week but my Subaru apparently had a timing belt fail around 5 today.

We were hunting deer, but heard a ton of shooting coming from the stocked fields. Talked to a couple guys who had limited out, and even saw a bunch of birds running around the roads as we were headed home. Lots of birds still out there.

If you're having trouble hunting for deer,
don't wish things were easier;
wish you were smarter.

Me & a friend with his pointer out this morning. We put out 10 birds cocks 5 hens. We missed the first 3 birds we flushed. Then I settled down & shot 2 cock birds & my buddy got 1. On our way back to the truck my friends dog found another cock bird in a fence line my buddy flushed it & proceeded to miss with both barrels. oh well I can't razz him because I did some missing myself today.

I stayed out of the madness and went out around noon. Of course my expectations weren't high. We didn't put up any, but saw a few running. The cover on our gamelands was so thick and high(sometimes 5-6ft high) I think most of the birds were running.

We did very well today. We flushed 3 ourselves, and got all of them. A fourth bird was flushed by some guys in the adjacent field, they shot at it, and missed, and it flew right in front of my buddy, who downed it. Over all, my buddy limited out with two hens, my son got a cock bird, and I shot a cock bird. First time in a while that we all scored.
