Elizabethtown Beagle Club Youth Rabbit Hunt
ELIZABETHTOWN BEAGLE CLUB TO HOLD "YOUTH RABBIT HUNT"
On Saturday morning, October 15, 2011 the members of the Elizabethtown Beagle Club will be
taking youngsters to the field to enjoy hunting cottontail rabbits over their packs of beagles.
Participating youngsters must be between the ages of 12 and 16 and have a hunter safety card
or current Pennsylvania Hunting License. Interested youth must pre-register and can obtain a
registration packet by calling Mr. Jeffrey Munster at (717) 666-8008 or Mr. John Gibble at (717)
The hunt will be held at the Lancaster County Solid Waste Authority facility off River Road in
Conestoga. Between 7:30 and 8:00 AM youth hunters and a parent or guardian Will be
matched to a club member and his hounds. Each group will be assigned an area to hunt with
the beagle club member handling the dogs and the parent or guardian assisting the youth.
Once the group arrives in their assigned area, the beagle or beagles will be set loose to find and
jump a rabbit. The youth hunter moves to a point with a good vantage and listens and watches
for the rabbit to return as the little hounds pursue him in full cry.
Coffee, drinks, and donuts will be available at registration and a tailgate lunch will be served
after the hunt. There will also be a demonstration on how to clean rabbits for the table, and
any rabbits harvested during the morning may be included on the lunch menu. There is no
charge to participants in the rabbit hunt, but participation will be limited to the first 12 youth
hunters to complete and submit their registration package. Parents need not be licensed
hunters, and any necessary equipment can be supplied by club members.
