I was out. I saw hunderds and hundreds of doves, unfortunately most of them did not come into range in the chopped corn field I was in. However, I made a classic double on doves with my 28 gauge SXS, so it was a great day.
When you are up to your butt in alligators, it is hard to remember your intent was to drain the swamp. Stay focused!
We only saw about a half dozen or so. My kid pointed out, that there were not much in the way of any kind of birds flying. Usually we see all kinds of birds, but not tonight. Maybe Irene blew them further west.
Hunted in one of our gamelands today. Not typical dove cover. It was a reclaimed strip mine. I have been taining a young female DD there and have been putting up enough doves while training to capture my attention. I figured that not many hunters if any would be there due its remoteness. Sure enough I was the only one and didn't here another shot all evening. Ended up with 14. Shot some while sitting and some on the jump. Neet thing was as I was walking and jumping them I flushed a hen pheasant. At that same moment a dove flushed and as I shot three young pheasants a little better than half grown flushed only feet from me. That is the third differant brood that I have seen while training the past month.
