i have been out 2 times now. where i hunt them im not seeing the bigger groups like i usually do later in the season. right now its like 1 or 2 birds at a distance. hoping once some of the corn comes down ill have better luck.
I've been out 3 or 4 times. Been doing better in the mornings. One day last week I got 11 doves and 2 pigeons in the rain, while waiting for geese that never showed. I bought a Mojo dove decoy and that has increased my shooting.
was but the field i was hunting got cut and turned over. It was the hot spot. Grass had turned to seed and hundreds were trading around. Now a few, so I havent bothered to go.
I was traipsing around Crawford, Mercer and Lawrence county and never found enough doves worth stopping the car for. Even bought a decoy stand and a Mojo dove. For naught. Bummer.
Driving around isn't going to give you enough of an idea of their numbers. You need to stake out in a field around 6:00 pm or thereabouts and watch for them flying over.
Went out yesterday from noon to 1:30. Not the time I prefer to be out dove hunting but I had to work last night so better than not going at all. No doves spotted though, which I had expected. I prefer hunting them from about 4:30 until dusk. Thats when I normally see the most birds.
