Shooting over the dogs this morning

Five of us took our dogs to our club this morning, 5 men 5 dogs, 3 setters, a Brittany, a Viszula and four guns. The one guy was training a new dog and was more interested in that than shooting. Two of us gave him our guns on a few of points. It was blowing about 20 mph and gusting higher. It made for some interesting dog work and some interesting shooting. We put out 18 chukars, they were strong flying birds and when they got up and caught the wind they kicked in the after burners and made for some challenging wing shooting. We put the birds out 3 at a time and we were hunting a Crep field on our property so we had plenty of cover. Walking in that high grass which a lot of was knocked over and walking up a hill for 3 hours in that wind let me know my age, I hate that. We started about 10 am and finished about 1pm and went back to the club house for hot dogs and kraut and a toddy. I took 4 birds and came home with 8 nice breast fillets. The dogs did a great job even with the high wind, they got some hot dog treats as well. We shoot every other Saturday from After Christmas until the end of March to keep the dogs in shape and for fun, also some deep fried breaded Chukar strips. I will sleep well tonight.

When you are up to your butt in alligators, it is hard to remember your intent was to drain the swamp. Stay focused!

Was just getting ready to get my lab out some when he managed to cut/tear the skin between his toes on one foot. Exposed flesh so now in a bandage to heal.

Sorry to hear that. I hope he heals enough to get him out on some birds.

Thanks guys. Didn't mean to hijack a thread. When it was cold I was skiing then we had all that rain. Then I noticed him constantly licking left paw. He should be fine. Good to read guys going out and working dog young and old.

We have a source close to our club. I don't think he ships out of state.
