Yur recommended 410 shot size for squirrel

Love to hunt squirrel with the 410... Actually I call them in with and inverted open reed predator call (Make Barks and Chatter with it).. When they come running at me I pop them one..

In your opinion when you use the 410 for squirrel.. Do you use # 4 shot or do you use 5, 6, or 7 1/2. Do you beleive in larger shot to anchor a squirrel with the 410 or multiple hits with more shot?

Squirrel running right at you...probably more shot would be better???If you start shooting them up higher in the tree tops maybe # 4 shot would be better????

4 / 5's. Them tree poodles are pretty tough. 7 1/2 are going to make them mad.

Good night Chesty, wherever you are......

I would probably pick 5's, but wouldn't go finer than 6. 7.5 is pretty fine shot for squirrel.

Re: Yur recommended 410 shot size for squirrel

Lets try this again not sure what I hit but it posted, sorry

I've hunted squirrel for years with a 410 my first gun was a savage 22/410 that I got for Christmas when I was 12, I still have it and I am 65. Many squirrel has met their demise with that gun and getting to the question 7 1/2 is not a good choice. I like number 5 shot its heaver but still has a good load of shot. I always use 3" I believe that there is just not enough in 2 3/4 inch to do the job. Just remember that you have alot less shot going out and you must take time to aim almost like a .22, alot of fun and I hope you do well.

Have you ever notice the velocity is more on the 2 1/2 inch 410 shells compared to the 3 inch 410 shells??? I never knew that before... I use to work at Basspro and was stalking the shelf one day with 410 shells and just happened to compare the two...

Re: Yur recommended 410 shot size for squirrel

I didn't own a 410 for years... However when I was a kid I use to hunt rabbits with my cousin...He had a 410 Mossberg bolt action...Neat thing was I had a beagle.. When the beagle would bring the rabbit around to us... That 410 worked so nice to anchor them...Of course there I am using a 16 gauge bolt action and really anchoring the cottontails...I want to try the little 410 on rabbits now. Hunting coyotes and fox all the time I just don't get out with the 410 like I should for rabbits...
