At least you can console yourself in the belief that you may be helping the grouse in the areas you would have hunted!

Yes of course. But that would only be if he spent the day there with a chainsaw.

There's no doubt that habitat work can only help the situation. But our grouse Biologist with all the information at their disposal have recommended a shortened season. So let's give them a chance. You can still run your dogs and scout for spots should the population rebound, no need to harvest them.

Yes all this beautiful winter weather...I've been enjoying the woods, running trail cameras, running my dog, busting some endangered appalachian cottontails, but something is certainly missing this year. Almost makes one want to go hunt the dumb young poults in October. Sweat your balls off, can't see 10 yards in a grouse cover, come home with 100 ticks on you and your dog. Nah, on second thought, I'm good. Bring back the good part of the season!

I had a great hunt this afternoon, much better than sitting inside watching a bunch of grown men bash their brains out.

Winter cover leading into the area I wanted to explore.

Lowland area with hawthorn and and apples

and areas thick with grape vines

I saw lots of these

And plenty of these

From what I saw in a 90 minute walk I can kill 10 grouse from there next fall without hurting the population.

JPR, if you read this, you can load the hounds on your quad and head down there from your house; not far off P5 road, I came from the bottom from the end of EVille road

Plenty of scouting and good habitat makes for a great hunt.

Was in there earlier during the early rifle season for youth.
