Unexpected late season phesant hunt

So I decided the dog needed a run this morning even though we awoke to 0 degrees. At 9:00 we decided to head out since it had warmed up to 3 degrees. We went to a spot that had corn standing until after thanksgiving and had produced 3 roosters on dec 22nd. Knowing a few birds made it that long I thought maybe we'd get lucky and a few more would have made it through. Long story short both these birds had themselves burried deep in thick nasty maultaflower rose that would have been impenetrable to any person. If not for my 1.5 yr old dratharr having no fear of brush i would have never killed these birds. He pointed them both and after being sent in got them both in the air for me. Just wanted to share this with everyone and show that there still are birds out there.

Good job, good dog work.

When you are up to your butt in alligators, it is hard to remember your intent was to drain the swamp. Stay focused!

Good job, I really like multiflora rose, wish we had more of it. I believe they remove from some of the game lands.

Thanks guys, I'm really curious to see how late into the season we can keep getting into birds. Also thanks for the positive comments on the dog. He's my first experience with a bird dog and I couldn't be happier. As I said earlier he's only 1.5 and is the most mild mannered dog when in the house, car, and with the kids I've ever seen at this age. But when we hit the field it's game on.
