Squirrels ? That's a twist. LOL. I like how it reads "No Pine Squirrels". HAHA

If I remember right, that was always Rabbit/Grouse. Guess that goes to show the state of the Grouse situation here in SW PA.

So the fact that it would be illegal to kill a grouse in Pennsylvania on Jan 20, 2018 isn't the the reason why they aren't included?

Why, I'll be dipped-n-rolled. You may be on to something there, twist. LOL. Can you tell how much of a grouse enthusiast I am ?

....... although, my guess is that they keep that hunt Rabbit/Squirrel, even if the late season is brought back ? At least yonder here.

I'm as competitive as anyone, but turning small game hunting into a contest grates on my nerves a little. I hope the "extended season" for grouse returns in the near future and that grouse continue to be excluded from this contest.

I've knew that they meant no Red Squirrels, but I've never heard them referred to as "Pine" squirrels in Pennsylvania.

I know them as Red Squirrels, and I also have heard them called Pine Squirrels plenty of times. I just thought it was funny that they are excluded ? I may see a Red once every handful of years. Quite a few folks, down here anyhow, incorrectly name the larger Fox Squirrel, and call them a Red Squirrel.

I am with you Dap, I do not like contests that involve killing game.

When you are up to your butt in alligators, it is hard to remember your intent was to drain the swamp. Stay focused!

I'm ok with it. I know that club, and though I haven't attended it's organized hunt in about 20 years, I'd say most of the guys would be hunting (and some harvesting) that day anyhow. The club itself is centered mostly around dog-men, with rabbit dogs (beagles of course), being kenneled there mostly. So that said, on a warm Saturday in Jan, those guys would be running that day anyhow.

The "event", is more geared to generate interest in the hunt, raise just a tad of money for the club, but moreso, rub elbows with old acquaintances that have like-minded hobbies ?

The "prizes" really are negligible. Nobody is going to work all day at hunting anything, just to have a crack at winning a T-Shirt/Hat, or $100 gift certificate. Any harvest will garner the harvester a ticket, that goes into a hat for a random pull at a prize.
