Re: Bobwhite Plan and Comments Requested

I haven't had a chance to read it yet but if it is anything like the Pheasant Management Plan it will be some great work!

It's breeding,training...and something unknown.

Re: Bobwhite Plan and Comments Requested

I am still reading over the plan but a couple of things come to mind right off the bat. The Pheasant Management Plan certainly raised the bar for all future wildlife plans and we know no were near as much historically about the Bobwhite as we do about the Ringneck Pheasant and Ruffed Grouse in Pa..

It's breeding,training...and something unknown.

Re: Bobwhite Plan and Comments Requested

I looked it over and sent in some comments. One thing I noticed is that I'm right in the middle of a high priority area. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Re: Bobwhite Plan and Comments Requested

Quail are having a most difficult time even in the south.

This is a waste of more PGC resources.

is it true that the PGC wants to establish QRCA's? With something like 50 birds stocked in 1000 acre areas?

The pheasant program comes with enough questions. Lets not even consider quail.

Agree with Dutch.

Re: Bobwhite Plan and Comments Requested

Bobwhite quail are native to PA. A bird that was once common here and provided lots of great hunting sport for pointing dogs and hunters. If any bird needs the attention of the PGC it is the Bobwhite quail. A native species in serious danger that can tell us what is wrong with PA's current land practices that won't allow a native species to survive. If this were a fish or bug there would be millions of federal dollars going into the rescue of this threatened species. Because it's a game bird nobody lifts a finger to help.

Re: Bobwhite Plan and Comments Requested

Oh come on.

We have better things to spend our money on than bringing back a native specie that can't survive due to current farming practices. You should know better.

Re: Bobwhite Plan and Comments Requested

Why not? We are spending money on a non-native game bird that has the same issues.
