Col. Mont. WPRA Questions

Does anyone know....Lynn???...

When will the Col. Mont. WPRA reopen to pheasant hunting? Any projections? Are your counts from the surveys promising or have they leveled off as was thought might happen.

Also...was the screw up and closure to goose hunting and groundhog hunting (small game) ever cleared up?

Is it currently OK to hunt hogs in the WPRA? I have gotten conflicting info from several sources...PGC included.

Thanks

Page 22 of the 2011-2012 Digest indicates [It is unlawful to train dogs in any manner or hunt small game, NOT INCLUDING GROUNDHOGS OR WATERFOWL open during the restricted time period, from the first Sunday in February through July 31 within any area designated as a wild pheasant recovery area.] Geese and hogs are OK to hunt this year.

Yes...I know ....but what about NOW. It was supposedly changed for THIS license year back in April, but I am getting conflicting info.

I am assuming the above verbage is for the start of the 2011/2012 Seasons.

Re: Col. Mont. WPRA Questions

I guess the safe bet would be wait until next Friday, July 1st, start of the new license year for ground hogs. Call the region in Dallas? They should be able to give you the correct answer.

Re: Col. Mont. WPRA Questions

Licenses are on sale now. The new regs books should clarify it.

Re: Col. Mont. WPRA Questions

Looks to me like crows would be OK August 1st until the first Saturday in February. For the rest of the Crow season looks like we are S.O.L.

Re: Col. Mont. WPRA Questions

Here is a link to some crowing count route info for the Central Susquehanna WPRA only. It also covers the two routes where wild birds were released. Additional info will be in the PGCs annual report.

Re: Col. Mont. WPRA Questions

Looks like the front end of a classic "bell curve" to me for Wash. West and PPL, with PPL already on the downside. When are these areas going to be reopened for hunting? How will they be managed to prevent a circus?

Re: Col. Mont. WPRA Questions

WE were hoping to hit 10 hens/square mile this year but it looks like we're a little short. We will discuss the situation at our next state pheasant meeting where all the data will be looked at. We have some good ideas for reopening without having to worry about a circus atmosphere.
