I have seen several hen turkeys out on edges and in the open without poults in the last few days. Got the glasses on one and she had no chicks with her. Anyone else seeing chicks or was it just a bad wet and cold spring? Pheasants, grouse??
My son and I have seen a few turkey poults while doing some habitat work.We also heard some pretty good rooster crowing, although we haven't seen any pheasant chicks yet. There was a grouse nest on my property but it was unsuccessful.I know it was a cold wet spring but I am not sure what effect it has had.
We have heard of one brood last week and they were only days old. We suspect nesting to be two weeks or more behind. This was also noticed by one of our members who raises pheasants and noticed they were a couple of weeks later than usual.

I haven't seen any poults yet. Today I spotted 1 hen all by herself, then a mile or so down the road I saw another hen with 3 longbeards. I did see about 8 young grouse last week with their mother and a few days before that I walked up on another grouse sitting on a nest of 12 eggs.
I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.
