Ringneck pair in my back yard

The game comm always puts a pair near me that end up around my yard,in the past they would maybe make it a week till you never see them(some thing got them). This year is different they are still here almost one month after first seeing them. Is there anything I can /should do to help them ?thanks

Re: Ringneck pair in my back yard

I never get tired of seeing them birds. It sounds like they have done pretty good so far on their own!The really don't have a long lifespan in the wild, even truly wild birds don't live much longer than two years on average! That is why nesting habitat is so important to keep the species going!Just to make "You" feel better, you could get some cracked corn and place in under some cover so they wouldn't be exposed to predators!Again this is more for you than the birds!

It's breeding,training...and something unknown.

Best to stay away so that you don't bring attention to them. Keep your cats away from them too.

Re: Ringneck pair in my back yard

I had 2 cockbirds in my yard yesterday afternoon, and saw another one about a mile down the road in the field last night. I don't know where they came from if they are state stocked birds or what. The state doesn't stock any of the gamelands with birds near me, but I heard that years ago the state would drive along the highway and release birds. It is all farmland around where I live so it's possible that a farmer has put some birds out. This morning while I was walking my GSP, I heard them cackling down by the Mahoning Creek in the brush. My dog's ears perked up and he got really excited when he heard them. It is just nice to see them around. Also, this morning across the highway on my in-laws land was a gobbler strutting around, I'm getting antsy for spring gobbler. That is the first turkey I have seen on the farm this year.
