FC Kash's Bonny Sir Jamie

It's over. What started as a funfilled trek thru beagling has ended. Just got back from the vet. Jamie is completely blind. It looks as if his hunting days are over. Don't know why yet. Vet says it will be a couple of days before blood work gets back. I do know it is NOT sugar, so that is a plus. Hopefully, whatever it is does not impair his breeding ability. He is on a couple of meds as a precautionary measure, so now it is just wait and see. He has beaten the odds 3 times before to become what he is today. Hopefully he can do it again. At 7 1/2 it will be tough, but he is and has always been a fighter. Hope that will be enough to carry him thru.

Sorry to hear this. Did it come on suddenly or over a period of time? Anything in his ancestry that you know of?

Re: FC Kash's Bonny Sir Jamie

Yesterday morning he started acting funny, stepping on things that he never would have before. He acted like he was blind and if I pushed my finger to within a 1/32 of an inch in front of his eyeball, he wouldn't flinch or bat an eye. Late afternoon appointment today confirmed it. Nothing in his ancestry that I know of, except his dam's father died young of cancer.

Sorry to hear that Joe, he was doing a good job on the HPA rabbit hunt and that wasn't too long ago. It's a shame when stuff like this happens.

Dang Joe sorry to hear that he sure seemed like a solid hound when we were running them hares.....could this be an effect from lymes?

Re: FC Kash's Bonny Sir Jamie

Thanks for the kind thoughts and well wishes for Jamie, guys. Those 2 hunting trips out central Pa. ( last day hare hunt set up by RidgwayHunter [Cody] and the HPA rabbit hunt [dukethebeagle]) have taken on a new meaning in light of what has happened. The good times we share with our hunting companions (be they beagle, lab, gsp or whatever) can end at any moment. Enjoy them while we can. Jamie has done alot and owes me nothing. He will be taken care of as long as he lives. I always said that my dogs will tell me when it is time for them to retire.
