Can someone help me clarify or know if I would get an answer to my question if I called the game commission. My question is Can my daughter accompany me (age 10) during a small game hunt for birds, she will not be carrying a gun at all or participating in any shooting of birds. This will be for the season opening on the 25th. I have looked for the answer in both the hunting digest and under title 34 chapter 27 sec 2701 c and I believe It answers my question that she can accompany us as long as she is not carrying a gun or shooting a gun etc. She just wants to go with us to observe but of course she would have to walk next to one of us. That is why I'm confused because at that point she could be considered doing drives for birds and hunting by someone. The title 34 sect 27 , 2701 a exceptions to live, the way I read it doesn't exclude small game so it sounds that she can come along with us as long as she isn't shooting/carrying a gun (she will be an observer).
I know there is a mentor program that includes deer turkey and squirrel for a mentor to hunt but this will be no hunting just observing as a non lic person under the exception of title 34.
I always went with my dad at that age and younger, so either we were doing things illegally or it was allowed. I'm pretty sure though that it is fine, so long as you keep her close which, honestly, on a bird hunt I would want her tied to my hip! Good luck, and I hope she has a good time!
A bad day hunting rabbits beats a good day of anything else!
