youth pheasant hunt

Just got back from the youth pheasant hunt. I had 4 kids with me this year. Man was it wet! The dogs worked great and the kids shot well, we ended up with 6 birds bagged and many more missed. I couldn't believe that there were not more people out today. I guess the wet weather kept a lot of people in.

Re: youth pheasant hunt

It was a beautiful morning here. The charge I had shot and missed a number of birds. She did wonderful as far as safety goes. Only a few honest points today. Birds spent many minutes running or wild flushing. Only saw a total of 6 kids out today but the birds were plentiful.

Only the owners of a GSP would truly understand, "If I fits, I sits".

Re: youth pheasant hunt

when we arrived at our destination I thought we had the area all to ourselves, no other vehicles.
we walked to the top of the knob, the lad loaded his gun.
he missed the 1st bird that surprised us by flying into the field just behind us & flushed right away.

the dogs flushed 2 birds from under some pine trees but the were a little to far out & the boy did not shoot. good judgement on his part.
50 yards later & the dogs put up a rooster. the boy needed 2 shots to anchor the bird. as we head on a hen flushes.
another 20 yards another rooster goes up. the lad only used 1 shot for that bird.

Re: youth pheasant hunt

It was a wet one in Adams county. The McSherrystown Fish and Game hosted a junior pheasant hunt along with fishing at the pond. It was a great day (except for the rain) and all the kids went home with at least one bird. They also caught some fish when they were not hunting. All the kids got to shoot some clays before they hunted. The dogs worked well but some of the birds had a little trouble flying well due to the very wet weather. We had the woodstove going which was very popular. Enjoy the pictures.

Re: youth pheasant hunt

We put up 12 roosters and 7 hens today.. Not many kids out here either.I'm guessing the rain had something to do with it.. My son was able to harvest 2roosters. super happy kid right there. The game commission does an excellent job in stocking for the kiddos!! Does anyone know why they stock all the hens?? We hunted rooster only area.

Dont complain........Hunt harder!!!

Re: youth pheasant hunt

Just had the dog out for a run in the non-hunting area of the state park. It's adjacent to one of the hunting areas. In barely an hour the fireball found 8 pheasants, we managed to get 4 of them to flush back over the tree line onto the huntable area. You're welcome.
