Pheasant opener trip

Hey guys, looking to do a 3 day camping/hunting trip a few days after the pheasant season starts. Any one have any advice where i should try for birds lookin to hunt some grouse also but want to stay with in 3 hours of philly. I want to camp at a state park close by and hunt public land. Just trying to stay away from the crowds and kill some birds. Thanks

Look on the PGC website under pheasant stocking and chose a gamelands and start there. Dates and amount of birds stocked are posted for each gamelands stocked.

Re: Pheasant opener trip

I'd echo what Rober said. Do your research online and go from there.

As a side note, trying to avoid crowds during stocking is like trying to avoid the plague...at least in my experience. Idk if you've ever stocked trout w/the fish commission, but it's almost like the truck is leading a parade. Almost the same sort of thing.

Good luck and happy hunting!!

Re: Pheasant opener trip

Honestly, I'd do it latter in the season. At the begining of the season there is no such thing as uncrowded, public, stocked pheasant hunting. Grouse is doable without crowds.

Now, if you do happen to find some uncrowed place that has birds, do NOT post it on here...........just send me a pm.

I kill because I'm hunting, but killing is not the reason I go hunting.

For any chance of avoiding crowds, you'll want to plan your trip for the weekdays. If you have a decent dog your odds of being successful will be good, at least with the pheasants anyway.

I know you can camp and hunt pheasant at Ricketts Glenn state park that right around 3 hrs from philly. There is also sgl 13 and 57 very close to the park and both are good for grouse
